The Rule of Law is Love
Join a cross-industry movement to affirm our humanity – everywhere
Who is Alanah Odoms?
I believe the law should be an expression of love.
But for too long in America, it has been used as a weapon — to dispossess Indigenous people, criminalize Blackness, police women’s bodies, and punish the poor.
As a civil rights attorney and the Executive Director of the ACLU of Louisiana, I’ve spent my career challenging these injustices — in courtrooms, prisons, detention centers, and statehouses. Under my leadership, our affiliate has fought voter suppression, police violence, and attacks on immigrants, winning groundbreaking cases that have reshaped the landscape of justice in the South.
And yet, I believe law must be more than litigation. It must also affirm our love of humanity. My work asks: What if our laws were designed to help us flourish, not just to restrict us?
I speak, write, and organize at the intersections of democracy, racial justice, and belonging. Whether addressing Congress, engaging donors, or working with grassroots leaders, my mission is clear: to transform law from an instrument of control into a framework for liberation.
If you’re committed to building a more inclusive democracy, I’d love to connect.
